Where do I get married?
So long as you have 2 witnesses over the age of 18 and an authorised marriage celebrant you can get married anywhere you want, like on a cliff, on a beach, in the bush, in a hot air balloon, in the water, on a bridge, under a bridge, on a roof top, on a merry go round, in your backyard, in your loungeroom, in a hospital, just ask … so much fun can be had.
Do we have to write our own vows?
Yes and No, I can guide you along the way if needed and give you some great ideas to help you put pen to paper.
How do we get married?
Firstly, you need to fill out the ‘Notice Of Intent To Marry’ form and give it to a registered marriage celebrant one month before your wedding date. I will usually email this to you prior to our first meeting and we can then finalise this when we meet face to face.
You need to complete the ‘Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marry’ form (DONLI) and we sign it as close to the wedding date as possible, the reason we do this is some of your circumstances may change, like your job or your address. This states that you are over 18, not already married and you’re not related to each other.
If you’re getting married on council land, like a park or beach you will need to get a permit to use it for your wedding.
I will need to see your ID before you get married. You need to prove your DOB and where you were born. Passports are the best way to prove this.
If you are a divorced person, I need to see your divorce papers and record what date your previous marriage terminated, who issued the divorce or nullity and on what date
After I have solemnised your marriage, I will send your Certificate of Marriage to the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, along with your NOIM and DONLI. Once the registry registers your marriage, its official, your marriage is complete! This may take a couple of weeks. Your official marriage certificate will be mailed by registered post and you can then go ahead and change all of your names legally.
Do we need to attend a marital class before the wedding?
No. I will provide you with information about marriage education and counselling.
What do we get for our money?
My fee as the celebrant includes two face to face meetings, unlimited emails, my gorgeous presentation folder filled with lots of amazing ideas for your special day, writing of your ceremony, use of my PA, a rehearsal, arriving at your ceremony one hour prior and greeting your guests, presenting your ceremony and lodging of all legal documents including applying for your official marriage certificate.
Can I say my own vows?
Absolutely, Please do. It’s one of the most beautiful parts of the ceremony. Words you have written yourself about your loved one is magical and your guests will also appreciate it. When you watch it back you will be so happy you made this decision. Say what you want. Be yourself and tell your partner exactly why you want to marry them. You can write something funny or serious, its up to you BUT to make your vows legal, you must say I, (YOUR NAME) happily take you (YOUR PARTNERS NAME) as my lawful wedded wife/husband. Your partner then says I, (HIS/HER NAME) happily take you (YOUR NAME) as my lawful wedded wife/husband. That’s it.
I can help you along the way if needed. GO FOR IT !!
How long will the ceremony go for?
Your ceremony can go for as long as you want , it can be 3 mins where we do legals only or it can be 40 minutes, or anywhere in between.
